SWD Education Programs
Harmony Ranch: Held in the first part of June at Texas Women’s University in Denton — while educational in nature, Harmony Ranch is weighted in favor of enhancing the enjoyment of Barbershop harmony. It follows the premise that nothing is more rewarding than achieving personal excellence in a chosen field of endeavor. This weekend of barbershop learning, singing and fellowship is supported by an excellent team of teachers, coaches and role models — an experience not to be missed!
Youth in Harmony: All about the SWD’s educational outreach program for youth interested in any form of vocal harmony. Includes information on Harmony eXplosion Camp, a four-day summer camp for youth held in the first part of June at Texas Women’s University in Denton (Harmony Ranch for adult Barbershoppers is held that same weekend in the same venue).
Chapter Operations Training Seminar: COTS is conducted at the District level to educate the general Barbershopper in the ways of running a Barbershop Chapter, and to assist newly and/or re-elected Chapter Officers in carrying out the duties of their respective offices. Each of the Society’s sixteen districts conducts its School within the same time frame, i.e., the latter part of November of each year, and employs a Society directed, uniform curriculum. Director Certification: Want to be a Chorus Director? The SWD offers two levels of education and certification, including Master Director Certification, under the auspices of the SWD Director of Chorus Director Development. (More info coming soon!)
Music & Performance: A variety of resources to help Barbershoppers, Quartets, Choruses, etc. improve their singing, musical, and presentation skills, whether for contests or performances — ranging from sources for Arrangements and Learning Tapes to Coaches and more, provided under the auspices of the SWD Director of Music & Performance.
